The project is funded by the Canada Feminist Fund (CFF) for 2018-2019.
Violence against women and girls remains a serious issue, posing a significant challenge to the attainment of women’s economic, social, civil and political rights. It is related to multiple levels of vulnerability, and in many communities in East Jerusalem, its consequences on women and girl’s physical and psychosocial health are exacerbated by restricted access to justice, quality health services, specialized institutions and support systems.
Therefore, Juzoor is about to start implementing the project of Empowering Women in East Jerusalem and protecting them from Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through strengthening protection mechanisms and referral systems; as a result to its rich history and strong track record in the field of women's empowerment and fighting against GBV; funded by the Canada Feminist Fund (CFF) for 2018-2019. The primary issues that this project seeks to address are: the high rate of gender-based violence (GBV) against women in East Jerusalem and the limited access of women in marginalized East Jerusalem communities to effective protection services.
The project is expected to contribute to the empowerment of women and girls in marginalized communities in East Jerusalem; through protecting their right to live free of GBV. Furthermore,it is in direct and strategic alignment with the Canada Feminist Fund’s overall goal of supporting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. In addition to the Canada' s Feminist International Assistance Policy's efforts to address the unacceptably high rates of sexual and gender-based violence experienced by women and girls.
