Juzoor’s Participation at CSW 2025: "Unfinished Business: Beijing +30 - Reflections on SRHR in the MENA Region"
Juzoor for Health and Social Development proudly led a powerful and insightful side event at the 2025 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), titled "Unfinished Business: Beijing +30 - Reflections on SRHR in the MENA Region." Held in collaboration with Oxfam, the event brought together key voices from across the region to reflect on the progress, challenges, and future strategies surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The panel featured diverse and impactful speakers, including representatives from Juzoor, Love Matters Egypt, the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship, and Dawar for Arts and Development. Together, they explored the evolving SRHR landscape in the MENA region — spotlighting the persistent barriers shaped by conflict, restrictive laws, and societal stigma. A critical part of the discussion focused on the devastating impact of the ongoing war on Gaza, highlighting how women’s rights and access to essential reproductive health services have been severely affected.
Speakers emphasized how the collapse of Gaza’s health system has left pregnant and lactating women without adequate care, while displaced families face impossible choices in securing basic healthcare. The panel underscored the double burden on women, who endure not only the physical and emotional toll of war but also the loss of autonomy over their reproductive health. These realities served as a call to action, urging international actors to prioritize SRHR in humanitarian response efforts and to ensure women’s rights remain central to recovery and rebuilding efforts in Gaza and beyond.
In addition to the panel, attendees participated in an interactive World Café exercise, facilitating deeper dialogue on the unique challenges women and girls face in conflict zones, strategies for strengthening advocacy, and concrete pathways for advancing SRHR across the region. The event concluded with a collective commitment from stakeholders to drive forward policy changes, amplify grassroots movements, and ensure that SRHR — particularly in conflict-affected areas like Gaza — remains a global priority beyond Beijing+30.
Juzoor remains committed to advocating for SRHR and women’s rights, amplifying marginalized voices, and fostering regional and international collaboration to push for lasting change. The powerful discussions held at CSW 2025 are a vital step toward achieving a future where SRHR is recognized and realized for all — even in the most challenging of circumstances.
