With the support of the Arab Fund… Juzoor conducts a series of specialized medical surgical trainings

Juzoor for Health and Social Development has implemented a series of internationally accredited surgical training courses under the supervision of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, with the participation of Palestinian surgeons accredited by the Palestinian Surgical Association. This comes as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of medical education and strengthening the competencies of healthcare professionals in Palestine.

This year marks an important milestone.15 years since the launch of the Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) program in Palestine. Juzoor is the only accredited center for delivering this program, which has become one of the fundamental pillars in training general surgery residents and a core requirement for accredited residency programs.

Juzoor Training Center hosted the Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) course with the support of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, in partnership with the Palestinian Medical Council and in cooperation with Noble Medical Supplies Company. The course targeted first- and second-year general surgery residents, with the participation of 20 beneficiaries from Ministry of Health hospitals and non-governmental hospitals.

The program aims to equip trainees with essential surgical skills in accordance with internationally accredited standards, contributing to improved patient safety and enhanced quality of surgical services.

Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS)

As part of its continuous efforts to advance comprehensive surgical performance, the organization implemented the Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS) course for the second consecutive year. The course is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, which led the training in collaboration with the Palestinian Medical Council and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

This specialized training program aims to enhance surgeons’ performance inside the operating room by developing leadership, decision-making, teamwork, effective communication, and the ability to manage high-pressure situations.

The course focuses on behavioural and human factors that directly impact patient safety and the quality of surgical care, through real-life scenario discussions and interactive exercises that enable participants to apply concepts practically in a safe training environment.

  • The course targeted third- and fourth-year Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) residents, with the participation of 17 beneficiaries from the Ministry of Health, the Palestine Red Crescent Society, and Al-Makassed Hospital.
  • Another Non-Technical Skills course was implemented for third- and fourth-year general surgery residents, in collaboration with the Palestinian Medical Council, with the participation of 28 beneficiaries from the Ministry of Health and non-governmental hospitals.

BSS Trainers Preparation Course (ToT)

As part of ensuring the program’s sustainability and expanding the pool of locally accredited trainers, the organization implemented a BSS Trainers Preparation Course, which resulted in qualifying 5 new trainers. This brings the total number of accredited BSS trainers in Palestine to 18.

Juzoor for Health and Social Development affirmed that the continued implementation of these internationally accredited programs reflects its commitment to strengthening continuous medical education and building the capacities of Palestinian healthcare professionals in line with international standards, contributing to the development of the national health sector.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh team commended the capabilities of Palestinian surgeons and expressed their appreciation to Juzoor for its commitment to running the course annually.
