Emergency Intervention by Juzoor to Protect Older Persons During Winter
As part of its ongoing humanitarian response to the current crisis, Juzoor for Health and Social Development implemented an emergency intervention to support older persons in the West Bank through the distribution of winter clothing packages to elderly individuals and the most vulnerable older persons.
This intervention comes under the project “Promoting Elderly People’s Rights, Social Inclusion and Healthy Aging”, supported by Caritas Germany, and aims to protect one of the most vulnerable population groups during these challenging humanitarian conditions.
Between January and February 2026, Juzoor distributed 474 winter clothing packages to older persons, including 230 men and 244 women. The packages included essential winter items designed to help older persons cope with harsh weather conditions and maintain safe and dignified living standards during the winter season.
The distributions targeted elderly care homes, community organizations, and institutions across the West Bank (North, Central, and South), many of which are facing increasing pressure due to rising operational costs, shortages of essential supplies, and the need to maintain adequate living conditions for their residents.
The intervention reached several institutions, including Saint Nicolas Home in Bethlehem, Birzeit Elderly Club Association, the Union of Palestinian Women – Al-Bireh, the Ministry of Social Development Elderly Home (Beit Al-Ajdad) in Jericho, Salfeet Forum Of Expertise, Women’s Union Association in Ramallah, Al-Nabi Samuel community, and Beit Liqya Municipality.
In addition, winter clothing packages were distributed directly to vulnerable older persons in Jenin, where many elderly individuals face increasing challenges due to displacement and instability. Older persons in these areas often suffer from chronic illnesses, physical limitations, and reduced mobility, limiting their ability to access essential services or cope with ongoing disruptions.
Juzoor affirms that supporting older persons and elderly care institutions remains a key priority within its humanitarian response. Targeted interventions such as these play a vital role in ensuring that older persons receive the protection, care, and dignity they deserve.
In line with its vision and mission, Juzoor will continue to expand its interventions, strengthen services for older persons, and support elderly care homes and community institutions to ensure safe, dignified, and supportive environments for older persons.
